MUD 95 has taken proactive steps to manage the growing feral hog problem that has impacted both MUD property and numerous yards and landscapes in Harper’s Preserve. These invasive animals have caused significant damage by burrowing and uprooting vegetation, leading to estimated erosion repair costs of $20,000 for the MUD’s drainage facilities—along with an untold amount of damage to residents’ properties.
Thanks to MUD 95’s efforts, the local hog population has been significantly reduced, protecting both public and private property from further harm.
Our Approach
To address this issue, MUD 95 partnered with Texas Wild Hog Control LLC to develop a strategic removal plan. This included:
- ✅ Identifying optimal bait sites
- ✅ Setting up and assisting with kennel traps
- ✅ Coordinating the humane relocation of captured hogs
All trapping operations were conducted discreetly at night to minimize disruption to residents. As a result of these efforts, 26 hogs have been successfully removed, significantly decreasing the population in our area.
Costs and Future Plans
To date, MUD 95 has spent $7,000 on hog control efforts to protect its infrastructure and prevent far more expensive repair costs. A reassessment will take place in the next two weeks to determine if additional actions are required.
It’s important to note that surrounding communities are also experiencing serious hog control challenges, and it is possible that another hog sounder could move into our area in the future. If necessary, MUD 95 is prepared to take further action to protect our community’s infrastructure.
